From Sea to Shore
Matt, Claire & Nigel: your hosts at Trillberry Guesthouse in Weymouth
After a long and proud career in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Matt and Claire Rowberry have traded the high seas for Weymouth's shore. They bring ship-shape standards and genuine warmth to Trillberry Guesthouse, which they have renovated from top to bottom since becoming the new owners in Spring 2025.
Their philosophy is simple: creating a home from home atmosphere as proactive, friendly live-in hosts dedicated to helping every guest enjoy their stay on Weymouth's seafront.

At Home on the Esplanade
Matt, Claire & Nigel the dog
Matt and Claire are your hosts in every sense: they meet guests, run the house, and serve breakfast themselves. Claire keeps the guesthouse running ship-shape; Matt brings decades of professional cooking to the dining room each morning.
Nigel, their dog, is part of the welcome too, a friendly face on the esplanade and often around after breakfast while you plan your day by the sea.
They're a dog-friendly guesthouse because they travel with Nigel themselves, and they know what it means to find somewhere that actually means it.
Where Their Standards Were Set
Matt and Claire first met in 2005 aboard RFA Wave Ruler. The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) is the civilian-crewed fleet that keeps the Royal Navy supplied at sea, carrying fuel, food, stores and support wherever they are needed.
Matt spent more than 30 years in the RFA, from joining his first ship in Portland at sixteen to becoming Chief Cook. He cooked for ships' companies around the world and served royal guests too, including Queen Camilla, when she was Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Claire has spent 25 years at sea, including 20 with the RFA as a steward. That experience gave her a practical eye for hospitality, hygiene and how a place should run, right down to room cleanliness with the standards you would expect on a cruise liner.
That is the experience behind Trillberry now: Matt's proper cooked breakfasts, Claire's careful eye on the rooms, and a guesthouse that feels personal because the details are looked after.
Why Trillberry Guesthouse?
They bought the guesthouse in April 2025 and have refurbished every room and bathroom so the whole house feels fresh, bright and ready for guests.
The result: a guesthouse that has been cared for as a home, not maintained as a property. That's the difference you notice when you arrive for your seafront holiday.
